From start to finish the whiskey manager gave me help in deciding if buying a whiskey barrel was a good investment, as I’d only ever dealt with stocks & shares. Now I’ve bought my fourth barrel.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We’re here to help you with any queries you may have about fine wine ownership.
What’s included in my monthly payment?

As well as the purchase of your fine wines, we also include all storage of your portfolio in our secure bonded warehouse and all insurance costs. In addition, you have access to your own personal Portfolio Manager as well as online services via our platform.

Is there a minimum holding period?

It is your wine and you can do whatever you wish with it. We do strongly recommend a holding period which varies depending on the bottle in question. This can vary depending on the wine and its potential for aging, something our wine team will provide information on as your portfolio grows.

Do I take delivery of my wine?

You can, but we recommend storing your wines in a tax efficient HMRC bonded warehouse as they mature. This important service is usually provided as part of your wine purchase with us. It allows the bottles to be stored correctly, under the optimal conditions for preservation.

Why is collecting wine so popular?

Wine has proved to be an excellent alternative to traditional investment options. As a physical asset, it can offer more financial security than stocks and shares, with value historically rising with age and rarity. Wine has delivered strong returns over the last decade and is recognised as amongst the safest and most secure assets.

How do I sell my wine?

When the time’s right to sell your wine, there are multiple exit options open to you. These include selling your wines as single bottles, through our e-commerce website. Higher-level tiers will receive priority access to our e-commerce and trading platforms, which will be launched in 2024.

Where is my wine stored?

Each bottle of wine you own will be stored in a secure and HMRC tax-approved London City Bonded warehouses. In this state-of-the-art temperature and humidity-controlled facility, your wine collection is fully insured for total peace of mind. In addition, you’ll receive regular account statements detailing your holdings with a breakdown of wine colour, origin and grape variety, and up-to-date Liv-Ex valuations (where applicable).

Fees do apply: please see our terms and conditions. If you are purchasing wine, whisky or rum cask for investment, you must consider the cost of maintaining your cask. You maybe liable for storage and insurance. The price will be dependent on how comprehensive the policy is and premiums may increase on an annual basis. Casks: Cask services are chargeable to you, including regauging, samples, and photographs. All casks are stored within HMRC-bonded warehouses and are subject to strict rules and regulations set by HMRC. If you wish to sample or bottle your cask, duty and VAT will be due before the whisky or rum has been bottled and the finished goods are removed from the HMRC-bonded warehouses. This remains the responsibility of the cask owner. “New Make” spirit has to be matured for 3 years, during which time its alcoholic strength could reduce. In addition, the volume of spirit will decrease over time (“the Angels’ share”). For the product to be classed as “whisky”, it must retain a minimum strength of 40%.
